What are the advantages of gypsum mortar


The most popular types of plaster that are used for building construction are cement and gypsum plaster. These plasters are used for external and internal plastering of the building; they form a protective layer that covers stone and brick masonry along with the RCC walls and ceilings. Additionally, wall plastering is effective in levelling the wall and ceiling surfaces; gypsum and cement are also used for creating textured or stucco plaster and finishes.

So what are the advantages of gypsum mortar?

Plastering gypsum mortar is a newer, more environmental friendly, and more economical product promoted in China instead of cement mortar. It not only has the strength of cement, but is also healthier, environmental friendly, as well as durable, strong adhesion, not easy to chalk, no cracking, no hollowing, no powder drop, etc., easy to use and cost saving.



·         Adjust air humidity

When the outer humidity is higher than the relative humidity of the plastering gypsum mortar, the outer vapor pressure is higher than gypsum mortar saturated vapor pressure, the gypsum mortar will adsorb outer moisture, therefore, gypsum mortar  can delay the humidity rise; when the outer humidity is lower than the corresponding humidity of the plastering gypsum, the outer vapor pressure is lower than gypsum mortar saturated vapor pressure, which promotes the evaporation of internal water molecules, so it can play a role in regulating and controlling humidity.

·         Recycling

Plastering gypsum has the same life span as the building. It can be crushed together with gypsum blocks after being discarded. After low-temperature calcination, it has gelling properties and can be reused.

·         Wall quality assurance after construction

The shrinkage rate of traditional cement plaster mortar is generally 7-9%, and the expansion rate of gypsum is one thousandth, which determines that the shrinkage and hollow cracking of cement plaster mortar is inevitable during the hydration process, can only be alleviated by additives and curing, but it is impossible to completely solve it. The gypsum is slightly swelling. Under normal circumstances, it is impossible to produce hollow cracking during the hydration process. Moreover, the hydration process of gypsum is very fast, basically hydrating finish in 24 hours, so the volume stability is very good.

·         Reduce logistics costs

Using plaster plaster instead of traditional plaster cement mortar in the same construction area can reduce the consumption by half.

·         Insulation

The thermal conductivity of gypsum mortar is 0.17W/MK, but the thermal conductivity of traditional cement  mortar is 0.93W/MK, so the thermal conductivity of gypsum mortar is only 20% of traditional cement mortar, which has a certain thermal insulation effect. , Can reduce the energy consumption of the building.

·         Building load is effectively reduced

The bulk density of gypsum mortar is 750-950kg/m³; only half of the traditional cement mortar 1800-2000kg/m³. For example, if a building (two units with 20 layer) is replaced by gypsum mortar instead of traditional cement mortar, the whole building will reduce the load by 550 tons.

 

·         Flame retardant

The molecular weight of dihydrate gypsum is 172, and the molecular weight of water is 18. When a house of 100 square meters encounters a fire, when the temperature reaches 110°C or higher, the dihydrate gypsum will quickly release crystal water and turn into hemihydrate gypsum and then further turn it into no water. Hydrogypsum can release 560kg of water. The water can absorb a lot of heat during the evaporation process, which can effectively prevent the rapid rise of the room temperature and improve the chance of escape.

In addition, no maintenance is required after plastering, the hydration and setting time is short and the next process can be constructed after 24 hours.

·         Sound absorption and impact resistance

During the setting process of gypsum mortar, there are tiny voids inside, so it can attenuate sound pressure, prevent sound energy projection, can convert sound energy into heat energy, so it has good sound insulation performance. Due to the condensed porous structure, it can effectively absorb impact energy, so it will not crack and fall off when subjected to impact.
