Starch ether are starch based additives designed for dry mortars in building industry. These starch ethers can improve the performance and optimize the workability of dry mortar by modifying the thickness and rheology of varied dry mortars based on cement and gypsum. Starch ether should be used in combination with cellulose derivatives. It can well perform in neutral and alkaline conditions, and it is compatible with other additives in gypsum or cement based building materials.

Modified starch ether is a kind of chemical modified starch without plasticizer and organic solvent. Its appearance is white powder. Compared with other materials, it has good compatibility.

Modified starch ether is compatible with other buildings admixtures, especially suitable for construction dry mix such as mortar, adhesive, and plaster. Combined together with methyl cellulose in the building dry mix, they can realize higher thickening, stronger structure, sag resistance and workability. The viscosity of mortars, binders, and plasters containing higher methyl cellulose ethers can be reduced by the addition of starch ethers.

Starch ether is mainly used in buildings, which can affect the consistency of mortar based on gypsum, cement and lime and change the flow resistance of mortar construction. Starch ethers are usually used in conjunction with modified cellulose ethers. It is suitable for both neutral and alkaline systems and is compatible with most additives in gypsum and cement products, such as surfactants, MC, starch, polyvinyl acetate and other water-soluble polymers.

When used in conjunction with HPMC, it can thicken, promote the internal structure, and has better crack resistance, hanging resistance, improvement and workability. The higher the proportion of methyl cellulose ether is, the greater the viscosity of composites such as mortar, binder, plastering and interfacial agent is. The addition of starch ether can obviously reduce the addition of cellulose ether.
